Sherlock Holmes has a quaint habit – he enjoys joining in to the discussion in beekeeping chat rooms! Or so we find out in this episode. This special network help him find a body in the morgue that he strangles while Watson looks on with immense disapproval. Holmes suspects the man was killed with epinephrine which set off a fatal heart attack. The hospital team however is not amused.
Sherlock and Watson succeed in tracking down the man’s last visitor, a blonde who works at a cosmetics store. Based on logic and supposition, Sherlock comes to the brilliant conclusion that the old man’s killer must be some kind of an angel of death. He espies a pattern emerging from the large number of deaths at the hospital. Mostly of those who are terminally ill. He questions all those who he suspects of having put to rest the sick patients and finally catches a drug addict. Meanwhile Watson spots a flaw. One of the victims was not so ill and was in fact recovering.
The druggie doctor suspect claims he saw a doctor talking to the dead man. Watson does her good deed for the day and helps examine a patient who she’s feels has endocarditis. Apparently it would seem that there are no HIPPA laws in this hospital and it employs janitors who are qualified doctors! In fact the one that Holmes managed to rub up the wrong way was in fact a doctor from East Europe. The said doctor-janitor finally admits to the mercy killings. Not just of the terminally ill but even of the girl who was recovering but was in too much pain. He tells Holmes that he is “as bad as the Soviet police.” Something that is not too far from the truth given Sherlock’s abominable social manners.
Watson’s doctor friend visits her at home and discloses that the patient did had endocarditis. Holmes finds that a surgeon had deliberately missed taking a clamp out of her chest and this was what caused the pain. So the janitor was not lying. So the doctor is arrested as he had persuaded the janitor to pull the plug. Holmes goes over the arrest several times while Watson deletes all the old pictures she had as a doctor.
On the whole the episode did not hang together well. It neither excited nor explored characters. Came across as rather flimsy. Also the murders were not as interesting as in former episodes. Finally one did not get to see any new facet to Holmes. Well apart from the friendship with the beekeeping chat room guy. That was the only funny and interesting part of this episode.
